The aim of this article is to provide guidance for Spanish as a Foreign Language teachers on an issue that it is not often addressed in master's programs or training teachers courses: the instruction of high-frequency verbs (dar, hacer, tener, poner). To achieve this, the paper has two specific objectives. The first objective lies in describing guidelines for the treatment of verbs that do not appear in the combinatory dictionary Redes (Bosque, 2004), such as tener, hacer, or poner. The second objective is to illustrate the above procedure through an examination of the verb tener based on the doctoral dissertation 'The verb TO HAVE in the Oral Corpus of Spanish Learners (CORADE)' (Alarcón, 2026). Thus, after defining the concept of a high-frequency verb, the core part of the paper is divided into the three phases in which the process of the first objective is distributed: reduction of the polysemic value of the high-frequent verb, simplified and integrative definition of the high-frequency verb that integrates both prototypical and systemic meanings, and finally, analysis of commons errors (e.g., *hacer sentido instead of tener sentido). Furthermore, each section or phase is completed by an example using the verb tener. The study intends to foster the growth of the emerging field focused on the teaching of high-frequent verbs (Jiménez Calderón & Rufat, 2019; Rufat, 2019, 2023; Jiménez Calderón & Sanz, 2023). More precisely, this paper directs its focus toward the crucial development of teacher training as an essential scaffolding to shorten the distance between the theoretical knowledge of high- frequency verbs and their practical application in the SFL classrooms.
