El presente artículo coteja las ocho ediciones conocidas de las Reglas sencillas de cortesía para las niñas (1848) del abogado, escritor y publicista Joaquín Roca y Cornet. Según indican los prólogos que anteceden la primera y segunda edición, el autor reaccionó a las necesidades del sistema educativo de su época en el que aún escaseaban manuales de urbanidad específicos para el género femenino. Asimismo, se demuestra que Roca y Cornet sometió la segunda edición a una profunda reestructuración y ampliación siguiendo los principios de un estricto conservadurismo católico. Entre los apartados que se mantienen inalterados se sitúan los principios básicos de la cortesía, así como los saludos y fórmulas rutinarias que dan inicio a una conversación. Las modificaciones, en cambio, atañen a reglas tan importantes como el trato de los padres o la obediencia, mientras que las adiciones conciernen más bien a principios de educación femenina y hábitos socioculturales introducidos en la sociedad decimonónica
This article compares the eight known editions of Reglas sencillas de cortesía para las niñas (1848), by the lawyer, writer and publicist Joaquín Roca y Cornet. As stated in the prologues to the first and second editions, the author was reacting to the needs of the educational system of his time, in which there was still a shortage of books on manners specifically for girls. It also shows that Roca y Cornet subjected the second edition to a profound restructuring and enlargement fol-lowing the principles of strict Catholic conservatism. Among the sections that remain unchanged are the basic principles of politeness, as well as the greetings and routine formulae that initiate a conversation. The modifications, on the other hand, concern such important rules as the treatment of parents or obedience, while the additions tend to concern principles of female education and socio-cultural habits introduced in nineteenth-century society.
